Cumberland Academy announces the groundbreaking of its new state–of-the art iSchool facility.

Cumberland Academy, a Texas Education Agency “Recognized” campus that serves more than 230 students in Tyler, is getting a fresh new look on both the outside and inside.   In addition to the groundbreaking of the new state-of-the art facility, Cumberland is being recognized nationally as the first iSchool to be built in the State of Texas.

“The Board has decided to pattern our program after that of Vista School in Utah” said, Board President Jim Cotton.    Cumberland’s mission is to provide a superior academic program enhanced by training in performing arts and a technologically advanced curriculum.  Cumberland will be the 2nd Charter School in the nation to partner with Apple, Inc., Highmark School Development, Promethean, Waterford, Pearson, and Yamaha to bring the most advanced technology coupled with performing arts to their students.

The groundbreaking ceremony will be held at the school’s new location at the corner of Shiloh Road and Chad Drive at 4pm on Friday February 19, 2010.

The new facility will be completed and open for the fall 2010 school year and enrollment capacity has increased to 440 students.  Applications are being accepted online at www.cumberlacademy.com.
